AUTONOMOUS TERRITORIES OF CHICAGO

Reap Where You Did Not Sow: A Guide to Urban Foraging, Vol. 1 of 3, Autumn, by Nance Klehm

Why The Exhibit Was Canceled, by [Artist]

"Why The Exhibit Was Canceled" is a collection of emailed correspondence that presents an account of how and why an artist canceled a one-person show at an American not-for-profit exhibition space. The booklet shows how artists can attempt to educate or challenge curators and exhibition organizers that prove to be insensitive, cowardly, or simply incompetent. It shows how artists can respond to the threat of censorship and unreasonable demands that attempt to exempt an institution of all liabilities. For those who have encountered institutional resistance in the past, and for those who expect that they will face similar problems in the future, "Why the Exhibit Was Canceled" should prove to be entertaining but familiar.

Something Like a Phenomenon: Two Audio Projects by Brennan McGaffey, by Brett Bloom

The booklet is a critical analysis of two recent audio projects by Brennan McGaffey: FM89.5 and Project Citizen's Band. Both projects featured specially constructed audio tracks that were broadcast over the city's airwaves. The audio tracks were intended to modify the physical (FM89.5) and psychological (Project Citizen's Band) spaces of the listener. The first project was broadcast over a 20 watt FM transmitter and the latter over a boosted CB. Brennan's projects greatly expand the ways that audio art is usually received and thought about. His ways of working have implications well beyond the impact of these two projects.
